CLUN FOREST

The rolling countryside is typical of weak rocks that wear away relatively easily, unlike many of the other top 20 sites that are prominent landmarks because the rocks they are made of are strong and resistant.

However these hills were put to good use, especially during the Iron Age when many of them were topped by hill forts, as they made good points from which to see the surrounding countryside which was also quite fertile.

Clun Forest is a large area in southwest Shropshire. It is not all forest, but has a distinctive landscape.
